  1. Question: What are the differences between the 2 types of search engines (Key word and Directory Search engines)?

Answers: Directory are websites arranged according to categories. it is meant for the users to browse the information they need. Example is the directory search engine in Yahoo: mail autos, games, finance. etc. It finds the specific information that the users need. It is useful in finding the subject you're searching for within hierarchies of larger subjects.
On the other hand, Key word is a tool used when users are looking for relevant information. Such as when one use google and igoogle. These search engines utilize keywords to know and identify the web pages which are related or relevant to these terms.

  2. Dear Dr. Supit,

In a directory search engine, the results are grouped in categories. Also, they were put (the results) in categories by a person. In other words, directories are managed by people. Simply, someone found a list of interesting links and then put them together into categories, so us who search can find the links easily.

Keyword search engines search the entire internet for a specific keyword the person who searches put into the search box. The process is fully automatic and the items are not organized by anyone, they are adjusted to our search question.

  3. Keyword search engines:This is the most common form of text search on the Web. Most search engines do their text query and retrieval using keywords.Keyword search engines use automated software programs to survey and categorise web pages. The programs used by the search engines to access your web pages are called ‘spiders’, ‘crawlers’, ‘robots’ or ‘bots’.
A spider will find a web page, download it and analyse the information presented on the web page. This is a seamless process. The web page will then be added to the search engine’s database. Then when a user performs a search, the search engine will check its database of web pages for the key words the user searched on to present a list of link results.
The results (list of suggested links to go to), are listed on pages by order of which is ‘closest’ (as defined by the ‘bots’), to what the user wants to find online.
Keyword search engines are constantly searching the Internet for new web pages and updating their database of information with these new or altered pages. Examples of Keyword search engines:Google (www.google.com)

directory search engine :It's an Search engines which use human indexers rather than spiders. When a site is submitted to such a search engine it is read by an indexer who decides whether to list it and, if so, indexes it in a directory structure.A ‘directory’ uses human editors who decide what category the site belongs to; they place websites within specific categories in the ‘directories’ database. The human editors comprehensively check the website and rank it, based on the information they find, using a pre-defined set of rules The best-known search engine in this category isYahoo Directory (www.yahoo.com) .

  4. Keyword search engines are the most common form of text search on the web. We can use any kind of word on a search engine; however it is important to use useful keywords and key phrases so that those keywords will actually tell what one is looking for. Search engines use the keyword we put in to identify any related web pages, images, information, and other types of files.

Directories are collection of human viewed websites and they are grouped by categories. Web directory , unlike keyword search engines, does not display lists of web pages based on keywords.

  5. Key words search engine

Robots, spiders or crawlers are automated programs that constantly scan the web to gather information (e.g. by reading the META tag in the HTML code). They store the data in the search engine servers and create an index of references. According to the relevance of the keywords chosen, a list of web pages appears ready for the search engine users to use. Google, Yahoo!, Bing, Ask and AOL search are examples of important key words search engines.

    Directory search engine

Humans are in charge of creating a list grouped in categories. They will create a structured list of relevant websites following a topic. DMOZ directory and Yahoo! directory are examples of web directories.

  6. Dear Dr.Supit

In the digital technological era, most people are familiar with the concept of search engines. They are tools that help people to find out what they need for their knowledge, learning or information in some seconds. But what are the differences between the 2 types of search engines (Key word and Directory Search engines)?

Key word search engines such as: Google, yahoo, Babylon, EBay are tools help me to find what I want to find out. Therefore, just type some specific key words which belong to that subject. Then just one click, automatically a list of every page relevant to those key words is appeared in order of importance for your reference. The most popular search engine that many people are using to search is Google.

Directory search engines are tools to help people find out what they look for but they are collections of topical categories and arranged orderly. The best directory search engine is yahoo.

  7. A fundamental difference between a keyword search engine and a directory is a search engine relies on automation i.e. robots or crawlers whereas a directory is built up and maintained by humans. Search engines like Google and AlltheWeb use robots to stay relevant. A robot navigates to a webpage and analysis it for its contents keywords, where the word is found in the title etc the robot may or may not navigate to another page. A directory like Yahoo is maintained by human editors, the webpages are categorized.

  8. What are the differences between the 2 types of search engines (Key word and Directory Search engines)?

The method to organize data of key word and directory search engine are different. They have specific features and benefits its own, Here are some applications that we can apply it when we need to find information.

Key word search engine works by storing information about many web pages and it operates through software and data are stored in an index database and it will be listed by frequency of historical data searching so the benefits of this type of search engine are we can get wide spread of information and we can also find needed information very quickly and easily however the information is not categorized well so it would be a useful tool if we put specific key words for searching, example of key word search engine are Google, Altavista.

Directory search engine is a search engine which is arranged by human and it is categorized by content in each of web page then it will be database for searching so this search engine has ability to satisfy user expectations however the categorization is usually based on human’s consideration and their attentiveness to categorize data into category, example of well known directory search engine is Yahoo.

We can get a lot of information come up with web page that represent of the information, on the other hand, Directories search engine show table of contents for finding information like a yellow book directory and have index clearly, for example, yahoo web shows group of categories of sites.

  10. Keyword search engines:
When you know exactly what you want to look for on the web (a specific keyword), you use keyword search engines. You put a keyword or keywords in the search box, and a list of websites which contain the keyword will be created (the one the engine thought the most relevant on the top of the list). Then, you can choose the one you need from the list. The most popular keyword engine is Google.
    Directory search engines:
Unlike keyword search engines, directory search engines have a directory, which is organized by subjects. You can choose a topic you are interested in from the directory. An example of most widely-used directory search engines is Yahoo.

  11. Main difference between search engine and directories is the way websites get entered into their index. Search engines have indices that are built up by robots or crawlers; whereas Web directories build up their indices through human editors.
The directories are as collections of Internet sites categorized by subject. But search engines work by sending out a spider to fetch as many documents as possible relevant to the keyword chosen. As a result of this,
a directory tends to list Web sites (root directory of a site or homepage) whereas a search engine will list Web pages (individual pages of a Web site).

  12. Keyword search engines contain computer-generated indices whereas directory search engines contain human-generated indices.

Personally, I use keyword search engines like Google more often because it is quicker and easier to find specific information by simply typing in keywords into search box. This type of search engine will provide me a list of web pages that contain the item/s that I am looking for.

However, directory search engines like Yahoo directory are more appropriate if I will be looking for a list of directories or sites offering particular services or products, because this type of search engine will provide me the list of websites.

  13. There are too many websites be posted on the internet. It is very hard to search out a website needed of millions of websites being presented. Therefore, searching engines are created to service quickly for this purpose, such as Google,yahoo... are two of forms of search engines. These search engines write programs known as robots, crawlers and/or spiders that have the following functions:
    (1) to locate Web pages,
    (2) to read the contents of the Web pages
    (3) report its findings back to the search engine's indices or databases.

There are two issues related to searching engines, that is keyword and directory searching engine.

1/ Keyword :Keywords service of a tag…Being from the most general description of the content you have and are words used to describe products, business or service website…

2/ Directory searching engines :the directory on the Internet contains many websites under each category, each subject of each. If your website is available in several internet directories, the index ranking, pagerank and search engine placement on higher.

3/ Difference between directory searching engines:
-Unlike other search engine Internet directory does not work automatically, but usually by administrators to update information through the registration of all websites submitted to.
    - Directories, unlike search engines, use a hierarchical tree structure to organize their database.
    - Another common distinction is that a directory tends to list Web sites (root directory of a site or homepage) whereas a search engine (such as keyword) will list Web pages (individual pages of a Web site). Due to the manual process of adding sites to a directory, directories often have to supplement their search results with a search engine partner to increase the relevancy of the produced search results.

  14. Question: What's the difference between Key word and Directory Search engines?

The main difference between the two is that Key word search engines such as Google use programs to find websites with the keywords that you've typed in the search box. Those programs, also known as "robots", gather websites with those keywords for the search engines collection of websites.

The directory search engine uses people to review websites and gather them into the search engine's index. An example of a website like this is Yahoo!. The websites are organized into different groups in which the user can find what they need.

  15. A keyword search is a word or string of words you type in a search engine like Google to look for certain stories, articles or images on the Internet.

Search engines which use human indexers rather than SPIDERS. When a site is submitted to such a search engine it is read by an indexer who decides whether to list it and, if so, indexes it in a DIRECTORY structure. The best-known search engine in this category is YAHOO.

  16. Keyword search engines are the more common in the form of text search. We can type any word a search engine; however it is more sensible to use keywords and key phrases so that those it will help you by giving the approximately the exact search that you are looking for. Search engines use the keyword we put in to identify any related web pages, images, information, and other types of files.

Directories are collection of most viewed websites and they are grouped by categories. Web directory , unlike keyword search engines, does not display lists of web pages based on keywords.

  18. As i know, the "google" is the best search engine in the world and the "yahoo" is the second. Both of these have the strength and skill of the search. It means keyword search engines use automated software programs to survey and categorise web pageskAfter i readed the informations,i found some differences of these.
1.The "google" is always to keep the trues of these news and the "yahoo" would make many kinds of the informations usually.
2.The "google" is pay attention to the URLs and the "yahoo" is looks the search time importantly.
3.When the consumer write the key words in the search engine ,the "google" will show the many many of the imformations immediately and get the hot or fresh news to the top;the "yahoo" will show the many kinds of imformationis just.
4.Usually,"google" search engine is constantly searching the Internet for new web pages and updating their database of information with these new or altered pages. the "yahoo" search engine, they place websites within specific categories in the ‘directories’ database.
5.To use the search engine of the "google",we just to write the keywords, and use the search engine of the "yahoo" we could see the direct link.

  19. What's the difference between Directory and Key Word Search engines?

In Directory search engines, results are basically displayed in categories set and maintained by reviewers/editors. Categorizations are generally based on the whole web site rather than one page or a set of keywords. Yahoo directory (dir.yahoo.com) is an example of a directory search engine.

In contrast, results displayed from a search in a ‘key word search engine’ are principally based on keywords and are not categorized. Furthermore, it primarily operates algorithmically. Google (www.google.com) is an example of a key word search engine.

  20. The Difference Between Google and Yahoo

It is commonplace for search engine marketers to drag and drop their campaigns from Google to Yahoo. This approach needs to be treated with a grain of salt, however. It is important not to write off the other search engines, particularly Yahoo. There is a lot of excellent volume to be captured, depending upon the vertical you are targeting.
Some campaigns perform horribly in Yahoo. Indeed,it is also easy to become frustrated with Yahoo, especially if you do not have a ton of experience working with them. I have worked alongside search engine marketing managers who have completely written off Yahoo, and sometimes understandably so.
Truthfully, I have not always been the largest proponent of Yahoo’s search technology. However, in many cases, it is possible to get a lot of quality business or leads out of Yahoo -- again, if you are in the right vertical. You might even get more than you are getting in Google! There are always exceptions to the rule, but it is often times the case that the Yahoo searchers are less savvy than the Google searchers. They also tend to be older and less educated (again, not always). It is possible to make logical conclusions about what campaigns should perform well in Yahoo, and those that should not. Without giving away every client I ever worked on, suffice it to say, I would think a Rolex e-commerce site would do poorly in Yahoo, and lead generation for The University of Phoenix could do quite well.

In conclusion, if I am running paid search and have the budget for all of the engines, I should make sure to give Yahoo a whirl. They aren’t always going to work well for what works in Google, and sometimes they won’t work well at all. But it is worth dealing with those clunky bulksheets and the Panama UI to find out, because there is still a lot of quality traffic to be captured.

  21. What are the differences between the 2 types of search engines (Key word and Directory Search engines)?
key word is match the words contained in search query to web pages which contain those same words or phrases within its text. we can perform keyword searches using a regular search engine which maintains its own database, such as Google or Bing or use a meta search engine, such as DogPile or SavvySearch.

Directory Search engines do not maintain their own database of web pages. They draw on the catalogs compiled by other search engines that actively crawl web pages. The listings are compiled by search engine directories that actively solicit website submissions these search engine directories maintain their own company database of the material published online.
